Examining the Assumptions of Generative Artificial Intelligence Systems on Future Leadership

Deniz Görgülü

pp. 1 - 24   |  DOI: 10.29329/jeps.2024.1052.1

Abstract

AI technologies are expected to bring about changes in both the theoretical and practical aspects of leadership. When forecasting these developments, the assumptions of generative AI technologies can be beneficial in revealing certain hints. The objective of this study is to analyze the underlying assumptions of generative AI systems in relation to their comprehension of future leadership. The research was carried out in accordance with the principles of the exploratory case study model, which is typically employed as a qualitative research design. The research study group comprises Chatsonic, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, ChatGPT, and YouChat chatbots. These chatbots use AI support to determine future leadership knowledge. The study involved posing four questions to the chatbots in order to investigate their comprehension of future leadership. Field specialists provided assistance in deciding these questions. The chatbots were posed with these inquiries in January 2024, and the responses were subjected to descriptive analysis. The document analysis methodology corroborated the results derived from this investigation. The research findings indicate that conceptual skills will play a significant role in shaping the future understanding of leadership. Conversely, the implementation of generative AI in businesses will diminish the significance of conceptual talents, particularly in the execution of mundane activities. Furthermore, future businesses will use generative AI to help leaders tackle more complex technological issues. Moreover, the use of generative AI in firms may pose potential challenges for leaders in terms of conceptual issues such as ethics and secrecy. The research findings indicate that generative AI technologies place significant emphasis on key aspects of future leadership comprehension. In this regard, it is advisable to conduct empirical research on the potential implications of emerging AI technologies for future leadership paradigms.

Güliz Kaymakcı, Yakup Gür, Serdal Bakan & Engin Üstündağ

pp. 25 - 50   |  DOI: 10.29329/jeps.2024.1052.2

Abstract

The current study aimed to determine the willingness of school principals to serve as school principal in BILSEMs, their perspective of serving as a principal in these institutions, and the difficulties they think they may encounter based on the opinions of school principals who work in different institutions and have not worked in BILSEMs before. In the study, the case study design, one of the qualitative research methods, was employed to examine social and human phenomena in their natural environments in detail. The study group comprises 12 school principals who work as principals in state institutions other than BILSEMslocated in the provinces of Bingöl, Tokat, and Istanbul and who have not previously worked as principals in BILSEMs. The research data were collected using the semi-structured interview technique and voice recording over the phone. In the study, it was concluded that the participants agree that BILSEM principals should be appointed with a written exam within the framework of specific criteria, that priority should be given to those who received graduate education in appointments, that school principals should be innovative, open to change, able to use technology, willing to prepare projects and have leadership characteristics. In light of the findings of the study, the following suggestions can be made: Principals should be appointed to BILSEMs after serving as an assistant principal in a BILSEM for a certain period, they should be trained by undergoing a one-year in-service training and appointments should be made by adhering to a performance-oriented process beside the written exam.

Arzu Sönmez Eryaşar, Ruhan Özel & Volkan Duran

pp. 51 - 74   |  DOI: 10.29329/jeps.2024.1052.3

Abstract

This study delves into the critical role of waste management, recycling, and reuse in forging a path toward environmental sustainability, economic efficiency, and social well-being. Conducted with 15 volunteer fourth-grade students in Istanbul's Seyrantepe district, it employs a case study and convenience sampling to explore students' perceptions and attitudes towards waste management practices. Findings reveal a profound understanding among the youth of the multifaceted benefits of recycling and reuse, not only in environmental terms but also in contributing to economic savings and enhancing societal consciousness. By analyzing student perspectives on waste management strategies and the significance of recycling symbols, the study highlights the importance of integrating these practices into everyday life as a means to achieve a sustainable future. The insights gained underscore a generational shift towards sustainability and the necessity of embedding recycling and reuse at the heart of waste management policies. This research advocates for the reinforcement of recycling and reuse as societal norms, driven by the innovative and environmentally conscious viewpoints of the younger generation, marking a hopeful step towards addressing the challenges of achieving a sustainable world.

İlkokul Öğrencilerinin Uzaktan Eğitim Algılarının Metaforik İfade Yoluyla İncelenmesi

Seray Doğru Oral

pp. 75 - 85   |  DOI: 10.29329/jeps.2024.1052.4
